Step 1 – Prepare the Installation Area

Start by turning off the power and water supply to the area where the dishwasher will be installed. This ensures your safety while working with plumbing and electrical connections. Next, remove the cabinet door or panel where the dishwasher will be placed. If you’re replacing an old dishwasher, disconnect and remove it before proceeding.

Step 2 – Connect the Water Supply Line

Locate the hot water supply valve under the sink. Attach the water supply line from your dishwasher installation kit to this valve, using Teflon tape on the threads to ensure a secure connection. Tighten the connection with an adjustable wrench, but be careful not to overtighten.

Step 3 – Install the Drain Hose

Connect the dishwasher’s drain hose to the drain pipe under the sink – if your sink has a garbage disposal, the drain hose will connect to the disposal unit. Ensure the hose is securely clamped to prevent leaks. In some cases, you may need to drill a hole in the cabinet to route the drain hose to the sink area.

Step 4 – Electrical Connections

If your dishwasher doesn’t come with a plug, you’ll need to hardwire it to your home’s electrical system. Make sure the power is off at the circuit breaker (this is very important!). Open the dishwasher’s junction box, usually located at the bottom front of the appliance. Connect the electrical wires from the dishwasher to the corresponding wires in your home, using wire connectors. Match the colours: black to black (hot), white to white (neutral), and green to green (ground).

Step 5 – Position the Dishwasher

Carefully slide the dishwasher into its designated space, making sure not to kink or crimp the water supply line or drain hose. Adjust the leveling feet of the dishwasher so it sits evenly and securely (an uneven dishwasher can cause operational issues and noise during use).

Step 6 – Final Connections and Testing

Turn on the water supply and check for leaks at all connections. If you notice any leaks, tighten the connections slightly. Once the plumbing is secure, turn on the power at the circuit breaker. Run a short cycle on the dishwasher to ensure it’s functioning correctly and that there are no leaks in the water supply or drain lines.
